Since 1964, the bookmobile has brought critical Library services and materials to people who live, work and attend school in Mountain View. As a full-service Library on wheels, the bookmobile brings free access to education, knowledge and entertainment to people all over the City. 

New Vehicle and Updated Service Model 

A new vehicle and updated service model was introduced to the Mountain View community in January 2024. Equity of service was the focus when designing the new vehicle. Its smaller size allows it to easily move through Mountain View’s narrow streets and reach areas that were previously inaccessible to the larger vehicle. The number of service locations throughout the City has increased as a result. Its removable carts can be rolled outside so people of all abilities and groups of any size can access the collection. It is also easily recognizable with its eye-catching City colors, Library logo and mission.

The vehicle operates fully on electricity, representing one of the first all-electric vehicles of its kind for size, weight and capacity. It produces zero tailpipe emissions and can be charged using renewable energy sources, contributing to the City’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 80% below 2005 levels by 2030.
